Backend Engineer - Platform - Stacks

About the Role

Grafana Labs is looking for a Backend Engineer to join the AppCore Stacks squad. This team owns the systems that create, configure, reconcile, migrate, and operate Grafana Cloud stacks at scale. You will work at the intersection of product, platform, and business operations to ensure our customer-facing environments remain reliable and performant.

What You’ll Be Doing

• System Design: Build and operate reconciliation systems (including SSS backend) to track desired stack state and repair drift.
• Lifecycle Management: Manage rollout mechanisms for plugins, dashboards, data sources, and Grafana versions.
• Operational Excellence: Improve incident response, recovery paths, and deployment complexity (e.g., single PR regional deployments).
• Collaboration: Partner with Product, Hosted Grafana, Infrastructure, and Support teams to ensure stack lifecycle workflows are resilient.
• On-Call: Participate in a follow-the-sun OnCall rotation and contribute to improving runbooks and alerts.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Technical Expertise: Professional experience with Golang and familiarity with distributed systems (scalability, multi-tenancy, HA).
• Infrastructure Knowledge: Experience with Kubernetes (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Helm, Jsonnet).
• Mindset: You enjoy solving challenges related to stateful systems, eventual consistency, and reconciliation loops.
• Remote Collaboration: At least 1 year of fully remote work experience; comfortable working asynchronously across time zones.
• Quality Focus: You write clean, well-tested code and are experienced in blameless incident response.

Bonus Points

• Experience with TypeScript/Node.js.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes control-plane patterns or operators.
• Experience with configuration tooling like Tanka, Flux, or Argo.
• Background in SaaS provisioning or customer lifecycle systems.
