Engineering Manager - Observability

The Opportunity

Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. The Observability department enables developers to understand the health and performance of their applications and infrastructure in any environment.

As the Engineering Manager for the Ingest team, you will build and maintain the configuration and deployment tooling that bridges the gap between "I want observability" and "I have observability." The team owns Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub.

What You'll Be Doing

• Manage and develop a remote team of backend and frontend engineers distributed between EMEA and NASA, providing regular feedback and supporting growth.
• Collaborate closely with go-to-market to ensure customers and prospects are successful with their Observability collection journey.
• Work closely with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub fit seamlessly into the end-to-end user experience.
• Guide the team from early ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch to deliver high-quality results consistently.
• Foster a psychologically safe environment where engineers can learn, experiment, iterate quickly, and practice continuous improvement.
• Work across team boundaries, contributing to projects outside your team's scope and partnering with other functions to solve customer problems.
• Leverage modern AI coding assistants (with company-funded usage budgets) to accelerate prototyping, test generation, refactors, and documentation.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Experience in Observability (especially OpenTelemetry) or building a central control plane that manages fleets of collectors.
• Comfortable working with autonomous engineering teams making technical or product-focused decisions.
• Strong people and relationship management skills combined with an up-to-date understanding of technical trends.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment using clear, empathetic communication.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance.
• Deeply customer-focused, grounding decisions in user needs and real-world impact.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems principles (scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability).
• Curiosity and practical experience with AI-assisted tooling and agentic development workflows.
