Engineering Manager - Observability

Grafana Labs is the company behind Grafana Cloud, the fully managed observability platform trusted by more than 10,000 organizations. We are a 100% remote company with team members across 40+ countries.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Observability department, specifically leading the Ingest team.

The Opportunity

Grafana Cloud integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana, allowing customers to leverage top open-source observability software (Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, Pyroscope) without installation and maintenance overhead.

The Ingest team builds and maintains configuration and deployment tooling that bridges the gap between "I want observability" and "I have observability." The team owns Fleet Management (the cloud control plane managing hundreds of thousands of Observability Collectors), the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub.

What You'll Be Doing

• Manage and develop a distributed team of backend and frontend engineers, providing regular feedback and supporting growth.
• Collaborate closely with go-to-market teams to ensure customer and prospect success with Observability collection.
• Work closely with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub fit seamlessly into the end-to-end user experience.
• Guide projects from early ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch.
• Foster a psychologically safe, high-trust environment that encourages experimentation, iteration, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to projects outside team boundaries and partner with other functions to solve customer problems.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Experience in Observability (especially OpenTelemetry) or building central control planes managing fleets of collectors is a strong advantage.
• Comfortable working with engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy.
• Strong people management skills combined with an up-to-date understanding of technical trends and team challenges.
• Skilled at collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment using clear, empathetic communication.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance.
• Deeply customer-focused, grounding decisions in real-world user impact.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems principles (scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, observability).
• Curiosity and comfort with AI-assisted tooling (e.g., AI coding assistants) to iterate quickly within security guidelines.
