Staff Backend Engineer - Grafana Enterprise

About the Role

Grafana Enterprise is our composable observability platform designed for large-scale operators with strict security and regulatory requirements. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will architect and build the distributed systems that power this platform, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance for some of the world's largest enterprises.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Architecting Systems: Design and lead the development of backend services and distributed systems in Go.
• Technical Leadership: Drive projects from ideation through development to production, ensuring high standards for scalability, security, and multi-tenancy.
• Operational Excellence: Own the operational health of the platform, including participation in on-call rotations.
• Mentorship: Hire and develop top-tier engineering talent and act as a thought leader within the organization.
• Customer Collaboration: Engage directly with enterprise customers and cloud providers to translate complex requirements into robust engineering solutions.
• Open Source Contribution: Contribute to the broader observability ecosystem and Grafana’s open-source legacy.

Technical Competencies

• Core Skills: Deep professional experience in Go, distributed systems (replication, consistency, fault tolerance), and production-grade service operations.
• Infrastructure: Experience with Kubernetes, containerized deployments, and managing stateful workloads.
• Data & APIs: Strong database skills (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and experience building/consuming gRPC/protobuf APIs.
• Observability: Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Loki, Mimir, and Tempo.
• CI/CD: Experience with large-scale build tooling and continuous delivery pipelines.
