Grafana Labs is the company behind Grafana Cloud, the fully managed observability platform trusted by more than 10,000 organizations to ensure reliability, resolve incidents faster, and optimize telemetry at scale. Built on open source and open standards and designed for interoperability across any stack, Grafana Cloud brings AI to observability and observability to AI, giving teams unified visibility across their disparate data. Customers including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce rely on Grafana Labs. We are a 100% remote company with team members across 40+ countries.

Description of Duties

We are looking for a Staff Technical Writer to create documentation and learning content that helps people adopt and master Grafana’s observability products. You will work with engineers, product managers, and the Grafana writing team to produce content for a range of products and audiences, from first-time users to experienced practitioners.

AI is part of how this team works. We use AI-assisted workflows and tools throughout the content lifecycle, from research and drafting to review, validation, and maintenance. You will use these tools daily and help the team improve how they are utilized.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, research, write, and maintain documentation and learning content (concepts, tasks, tutorials, references, and in-product learning) that supports adoption and long-term product mastery.
  • Use AI tools and workflows for drafting, structuring, technical validation, consistency checks, and keeping content current, applying human judgment to verify accuracy.
  • Contribute to the team’s shared AI workflows and skills, seeking ways to improve and automate content creation and maintenance as tools and models evolve.
  • Partner with engineers, PMs, and other stakeholders to understand product requirements, interview subject matter experts, and translate complex technical detail into clear, accurate content.
  • Test what you document by running software, following procedures, and identifying product and UX gaps.
  • Use docs and learning analytics alongside user feedback to identify content gaps, prioritize work, and measure impact.
  • Collaborate with the documentation manager and other writers to improve information architecture, voice, and consistency across documentation for both humans and AI-driven search.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritizing effectively and communicating when plans change.
  • Mentor teammates and share best practices that elevate team quality.

Requirements

  • Experience writing or documenting enterprise or developer-facing software, supported by a portfolio or writing samples showcasing technical depth.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools and models in your writing workflow (such as LLM assistants, agentic coding tools, or custom prompts) and the ability to explain your evaluation and verification processes.
  • Experience working with docs-as-code: command-line Git, GitHub (pull requests and reviews), Markdown, and common IDEs.
  • Comfort working in technical environments, including setting up, running, and troubleshooting software independently (e.g., command line, containers, Kubernetes, or willingness to learn).
  • Proven experience collaborating with engineers and product managers to extract accurate technical information.
  • Experience working remotely and asynchronously on a distributed team.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Curiosity about AI as a craft: You treat AI workflows as a professional skill, experimenting and understanding where AI helps and where it does not.
  • Technical credibility: Strong attention to accuracy, fast learning in new technical domains, and persistent curiosity.
  • Strong judgment and editing skills: Ability to distinguish quality content from plausible-sounding text and maintain high standards.
  • Ownership: Proven capability to drive multiple projects forward both independently and collaboratively.
  • Clarity: Ability to write concisely and plainly for diverse technical audiences.
  • Bonus: Experience with observability, monitoring, cloud-native tooling, or open-source documentation contributions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: €85,000 - €102,000 (Germany)
  • Equity & Bonus: Equity compensation and eligibility for company bonuses where applicable.
  • Time Off: Global annual leave policy of 30 days per annum (including 3 reserved Grafana Shutdown Days).
