At Greenhouse, our mission is to make hiring work for everyone – so we go to great lengths to hire great people because we believe that they’re the foundation of our success. At Greenhouse, you’ll join a team that collaborates purposefully, fosters inclusivity, and communicates with transparency and accountability so we can achieve our mission.
Greenhouse is searching for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our Employer Experience & Talent Discovery team. This team builds the experiences and signals that help employers find the right talent faster, while creating the foundation for a trusted talent discovery ecosystem.
In this role, you’ll contribute to Talent Matching, Talent Rediscovery, and related employer-facing experiences. You’ll work across the stack to build product capabilities and the search and matching systems behind them, with a particular focus on OpenSearch or Elasticsearch and practical applications of AI to matching, ranking, and search relevance.
Who will love this job
- A mentor – you’re passionate about guiding and developing your peers, sharing your knowledge, leading projects, and contributing to the team’s collective success
- A doer – you’re driven to get things done, act with agility, and adapt seamlessly to dynamic environments
- A pragmatic architect – you evaluate trade-offs between performance, relevance, maintainability, and cost, choosing patterns that simplify complexity for the long term
- A problem solver – you think about the bigger picture, connect the dots, and efficiently resolve technical and product challenges
- An excellent communicator – you explain technical processes clearly, including to non-engineers, and work well with Product, Design, Data, and Applied ML partners
- A search and matching builder – you enjoy turning complex retrieval and ranking problems into intuitive, trustworthy product experiences
What you’ll do
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to define requirements and drive product development from conception to launch
- Build and improve full-stack experiences for Talent Matching, Talent Rediscovery, and related talent discovery workflows
- Design and ship search-backed capabilities using OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including indexing strategies, query design, relevance tuning, ranking improvements, and semantic retrieval patterns
- Develop matching systems that combine keyword, structured, and semantic signals, applying AI/ML techniques such as embeddings, similarity search, classification, and ranking to improve match quality and consistency
- Partner with Applied ML and cross-functional engineering teams to evaluate trade-offs across relevance, latency, reliability, infrastructure cost, and user trust
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, conduct thorough code reviews, and contribute to team engineering practices
You should have
- 5+ years of experience writing production code
- Deep experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch in production, including indexing, query design, relevance tuning, and performance trade-offs
- Experience with Ruby, C#, Java, or Python; Ruby on Rails preferred
- Strong JavaScript or TypeScript fundamentals, including React
- Full-stack experience across backend systems, APIs, data modeling, and modern frontend development
- Experience building search, ranking, recommendation, or matching systems
- Practical experience applying AI or ML techniques in production, such as embeddings, semantic search, classification, or ranking
- Experience collaborating with Product and Design in ambiguous, user-facing problem spaces
- Experience with analytical databases is a plus
