Omada Health is on a mission to bend the curve of chronic disease.
Job Overview
We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead two squads building Omada’s Platform and Engineering Systems. These squads own problems from prototype to production, including the maintenance and the on-call rotation for what they ship. You are responsible for those squads: what they work on, in what order, and how your people and teams grow.
As an Engineering Manager, you ship code alongside your AI-powered engineers. You own the execution and will run the squad’s rituals: iteration shaping, prioritization, backlog refinement, and initiative estimation are your calls. Being in charge means you have an opinion about the tradeoffs you and the squad are making, and are comfortable partnering with the squad’s stakeholders and finding solutions to problems, should they arise.
You partner closely with stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Design, IT, InfoSec, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, and beyond. Your relationships with the people in those departments will be very important. You will manage millions of dollars in annual vendor budget and spending, through key contracts including Amazon Web Services, Datadog, Gitlab, and Anthropic. You will be responsible for annual internal and external audit controls, and must help your teams develop automation and evidence management processes to streamline audit responses.
About You
- You are comfortable being accountable for what your squad ships. You still write code, and you want to. This role ships production work every sprint, off the critical path, in the same codebase and the same agentic workflows as your squad.
- You are an experienced engineering leader, and you are opinionated about the systems you maintain. You understand why the most important work must be done, and you own the roadmap that will get it done.
- You are respected technically, possessing the fundamental understanding to know what great looks like and the communication skills to build strong relationships with your teams and colleagues.
- You are opinionated about where AI-assisted development helps and where it produces work someone else has to redo, based on first-hand experience.
- Above all, you are enthusiastic about providing the best possible care for our members and building the best engineering team of your career.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing, Hiring, and Mentoring: Lead 5 people. Expand your teams with a strong perspective on hiring amazing talent while ensuring existing team members continue to grow.
- Own Squad Delivery: Own sprint shaping, prioritization, backlog grooming, and estimation.
- Own Cycle Time: Maintain or improve cycle time at constant or better quality.
- Ship Code: Produce production work every sprint, off the critical path, using the same agent workflows your squad uses.
- Grow Engineers: Provide your reports with strong leadership and growth opportunities.
- Own Operational Health: Lead on-call rotations, MTTR, and post-incident analysis.
- Escalate Effectively: Bring tradeoffs and use engineering and product taste to form recommendations.
- Hire AI-Augmented Engineers: Help hire and build careers for the new generation of AI-augmented talent.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in software engineering, including at least 2 years managing engineers, or equivalent experience leading delivery for an accountable team.
- Proven track record shipping mission-critical software to production and maintaining it long-term.
- Ability to build a roadmap, plan capacity, evaluate trade-offs, and negotiate with stakeholders.
- Experience owning prioritization and estimation for a team, including making tough calls on scope.
- Experience providing direct developmental feedback and managing underperformance with genuine support.
- Hands-on experience shipping production code in at least one layer of our stack (Multi-account AWS, self-managed CI, Kubernetes, backend in Ruby/Python, GitOps release management, internal tools) with broad context across the rest.
- Hands-on experience directing AI agents through real-world production changes.
- Understanding of CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and telemetry to evaluate operational health.
- Security-first mindset in everything you design and build.
- Excellent written communication skills.
