Claims Adjuster - Kin

Who We Are

Kin makes life simpler, more affordable, and better for homeowners — especially in places where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems make it harder. We start with smarter homeowners insurance and expand to everything homeowners need to thrive.

Founded in 2016, Kin is a remote-first employer serving customers across 13 states. We offer a culture focused on doing meaningful work with real impact for our customers, our communities, and each other.

The Opportunity

Kin is seeking a Claims Adjuster with first-party property claims experience to join our growing team. As a Claims Adjuster, you will guide customers through the claims process with empathy and clarity, helping them navigate property damage situations with confidence. You will investigate and manage claims from a variety of perils efficiently and thoroughly to ensure timely, fair resolutions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Examine and appropriately interpret insureds’ policies, forms in force, and other records to determine coverage and the extent of company liability.
  • Maintain active communication with customers throughout the claims process.
  • Draft, approve, and adjust estimates of damage and loss amounts.
  • Conduct investigations using varied methods, including taking recorded statements, consulting with police, inspecting property damage, and reviewing documentation.
  • Partner with field appraisers to manage home estimates and repairs.
  • Estimate cost of repair, replacement, or compensation.
  • Write clear, concise diary notes, set field assignments, save contacts, and issue payments.
  • Appropriately apply knowledge of multiple state statutes, including the insurance code of ethics, rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Success in This Role

  • Case Management: Independently manage a full caseload of property claims from first notice of loss through resolution, meeting or exceeding timeliness and quality expectations while maintaining strong customer satisfaction.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Demonstrate a strong command of state-specific regulations and compliance requirements, handling claims in accordance with applicable laws and ethical standards.

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years of first-party residential property claims adjusting working directly for an insurance carrier.
  • Active, valid Adjuster's License in your current state of residence.
  • Knowledge and experience in California claim handling.
  • Strong understanding of Florida insurance laws and good faith claims handling.
  • Capability to work through daily and catastrophe claims in high-risk states.
  • Experience with vendor management and negotiations.
  • Proficiency in various claims systems (e.g., Xactimate, XactAnalysis, Symbility, EagleView).
  • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish-speaking) are a plus.
  • Catastrophe Event Readiness: Ability to work mandatory overtime as needed in the event of high claim volume due to a catastrophic event.

How We Support You

  • Core Benefits: Competitive salary and company equity (RSUs), 401(k) with company match up to 4%, medical, dental, and vision coverage, HSA contributions, and paid life/short-term disability insurance.
  • Health & Wellbeing: Supplemental insurance options, mental health support, flexible PTO (typically 15–20 days/year), 8 paid holidays, and paid parental leave (up to 14 weeks for birthing parents, 8 weeks for non-birthing parents).
  • Growth & Development: Career mobility and professional development budgets for certifications and learning.
