Software Engineer, Back-End Focus - Kin

About the Role

As a Software Engineer, Back-End at Kin, you will work on small teams to develop the products and features that power the platform. Kin operates in a Ruby on Rails environment with a TypeScript front-end and a PostgreSQL database, using Agile methodologies for product and software development. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineering peers and cross-functional partners to build high-impact features and products.

Key Responsibilities

• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in Ruby on Rails.
• Deliver user stories, tasks, or end-to-end features.
• Pair program with team members to share knowledge and solve complex problems.
• Participate actively in daily stand-ups and weekly retrospectives.
• Collaborate across departments and provide subject matter expertise and support.

Requirements

• Track record of shipping small to medium-size software projects.
• Proficiency coding in Ruby, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, self-motivated startup environment.
• Fast learner eager to leverage prior experience while continuing to develop new skills.
• Residing in Central or Eastern time zones (CST/EST) is strongly preferred.
• Candidates must live and work in eligible US states (41 supported states) or Ontario, Canada.
• Kin is currently unable to sponsor employment visas.
