Opportunity for Impact

We are seeking a Senior Director of Marketing (Head of Marketing) to lead Mantra's marketing function as we grow. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role owns demand generation, brand and content, campus marketing and conferences, and marketing operations. You will inherit a team of five strong marketers.

Mantra sells to universities, which involves a long, multi-stakeholder sales cycle (VP of Student Affairs, Counseling Center Director, Provost, Procurement). Marketing also reaches a second crucial audience: the students who use the product, whose engagement and outcomes drive renewal. This role requires someone who can set company-level marketing strategy while staying hands-on with funnel data.

What You'll Do

  • Demand Generation & Performance Marketing: Own marketing's contribution to pipeline. Build a repeatable demand generation engine, own attribution across a long multi-touch sales cycle, and set clear lead-scoring and handoff SLAs in direct partnership with Sales.
  • Conferences & Campus Marketing: Own the conference and campus marketing portfolio as a core demand generation channel, partnering with the campus marketing lead on execution and Sales/Partner Success on outcomes.
  • Brand & Content Strategy: Set direction for brand positioning, content, and PR, empowering the senior content lead with a strategic seat in planning.
  • Marketing Operations: Own the marketing stack (HubSpot, Salesforce, reporting dashboards) and data-driven decision-making in partnership with the marketing operations lead.
  • Team Leadership: Directly manage and develop four marketers, rebuild intake and prioritization systems, and navigate workload and retention priorities.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Coordinate with product marketing and lifecycle marketing functions on product launches, and align with Sales leadership on GTM strategy and partner channels like EAB.

Who You Are

  • Communication: You represent marketing priorities clearly to executives, Sales, and cross-functional teams, tailoring messages appropriately.
  • Collaboration: You build strong working relationships across functions outside your reporting line.
  • Accountability: You own outcomes, transparently address underperforming campaigns, and focus on long-term execution.
  • Strategic Thinking: You can design an annual marketing plan aligned with growth targets and fixed budgets while evaluating tradeoffs.
  • Operational Excellence: You analyze channel performance and attribution hands-on, understand mechanics of lead routing and scoring, and diagnose funnel issues accurately.
  • Stakeholder Management: You negotiate lead-scoring SLAs directly with Sales leadership and maintain clean escalation pathways.
  • Creative Execution: You bring strong brand and content judgment to guide creative output.
  • Team Development: You have experience guiding teams through leadership transitions and retaining key talent.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 8+ years in B2B marketing, including 3–5 years directly managing a multi-function marketing team.
  • Demonstrated fluency in performance marketing and attribution models.
  • End-to-end experience owning the marketing-to-sales handoff (lead routing, scoring, SLAs) within HubSpot and Salesforce.
  • Experience simultaneously managing brand, content, and field/campus marketing.
  • Proficiency incorporating AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini) into daily operations.
  • Demonstrated accountability and a preference for building durable operational systems.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proven experience with multi-touch B2B sales cycles of 6+ months.
  • Experience marketing to dual audiences (institutional buying committees and end-user populations).
  • Background running conferences or field marketing as a primary demand generation driver with clear CPL and pipeline accountability.
  • Experience working in markets shaped by public-sector procurement (RFPs, FOIA, public university budget cycles).
  • Experience managing co-marketing relationships with strategic partners.
  • Experience marketing products with multi-year renewal cycles driven by usage and outcomes data.
  • Track record of revitalizing stalled demand generation programs.
