Principal AI Engineer - Mitratech

Role Overview

We are looking for a Principal AI Engineer to guide a distributed team of developers in building modern, scalable, and AI-integrated software solutions. As a technical leader, you'll be responsible for architectural oversight, system design, and AI strategy, playing a crucial role in mentoring our global distributed developers and leveraging AI tools to improve the speed, quality, and innovation of our delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Architecture: Guide the design, development, and deployment of software solutions that leverage AI. Ensure all development aligns with modern architectural principles like domain-driven design and micro-services.
• Agentic AI & Prompt Engineering: Act as a subject matter expert in Agentic AI integration, architecting robust MCPs/APIs and AI Agents. Develop and refine prompt strategies to guide AI agents in writing code, documentation, and tests.
• System Design & Task Decomposition: Translate high-level product goals into actionable engineering tasks optimized for human and AI execution. Provide in-depth code reviews for both human- and AI-generated code.
• Mentorship & Coaching: Actively mentor globally distributed developers, fostering a learning culture focused on AI tool adoption, clean code practices, and modern software design.
• DevOps & CI/CD: Collaborate on optimizing build and deployment pipelines by integrating AI-enhanced review and testing steps.

Essential Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on design and architectural technical leadership.
• 2+ years of experience working with AI/ML models in a production environment.
• Strong background in backend or full-stack technologies (Python).
• Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Devin AI, GitHub Copilot, or various GPT APIs.
• Strong system design skills with a focus on RAG/Agentic systems and task decomposition.
• Proven experience leading distributed engineering teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Exposure to AI agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGPT, AgentCore).
• Experience with domain-driven design (DDD), micro-services, vector/graph databases, embeddings, or LLM infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Portfolio or examples of previous work demonstrating a passion for AI-driven software development.
• Prior experience in a fast-paced SaaS or startup environment.
• Knowledge of the HR, Legal, or Risk industries.
