About the Team and Role

Mozilla's Web Conferencing team is responsible for the media capture and sharing features that power video calls in Firefox, including screen, window, and tab capture, as well as the user interface for sharing content in platforms like Google Meet, Zoom, and Jitsi.

We are seeking a front-end engineer on a fixed-term contract to implement and ship a set of screen sharing improvements to Firefox. The backend work is complete, and the UX has been designed and approved.

What You'll Do

  • Implement approved UX designs for Firefox's screen, window, and tab sharing experience, ensuring they are ready for release.
  • Build robust browser UI components that are tested, accessible, and localizable, suitable for a large and widely-used codebase.
  • Collaborate with UX designers to address unforeseen edge cases and with QA to validate the final implementation.
  • Support partner testing with major web conferencing services.
  • Integrate your work into mozilla-central via public code review on Phabricator.

What You'll Bring

  • 4+ years of experience building production user interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Proven ability to faithfully implement approved designs, with the judgment to identify and flag cases not covered by the design.
  • Capacity to quickly become productive within a large, mature codebase.
  • Experience writing automated tests for user interfaces.
  • Strong asynchronous written communication skills, essential for a distributed team across timezones.
  • Comfort working in public development environments like Bugzilla and Phabricator.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior contributions to Firefox or another open-source browser.
  • Familiarity with Firefox front-end architecture, including browser/, custom elements, XUL, and Fluent localization.
  • Experience with WebRTC or getDisplayMedia.
  • Accessibility experience, particularly with modal dialogs and list navigation.
  • Experience with Mozilla's test frameworks (browser-chrome, mochitest).
  • Proficiency in using AI tooling effectively in front-end development.
  • Experience working in an open-source environment.
