AI Product Counsel - Notion

About the Role

As an AI Product Counsel on the Product and IP Legal team, you will advise our AI product development team as they build and ship AI functionality. This role covers product counseling for launches, accelerating AI partnership deals, and navigating the complex landscape of frontier intelligence.

This role is based in San Francisco and requires in-office attendance on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (Anchor Days).

What You'll Achieve

• Accelerate Partnerships: Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to streamline and de-risk the partnership path, including model reviews, procurement, and evaluation agreements.
• Product Counsel: Provide pragmatic, product-oriented guidance to help teams ship AI features quickly and responsibly. Translate emerging AI regulations into practical launch requirements.
• Customer Support: Partner with Sales, Privacy, Security, and Product to provide clear responses regarding Notion AI capabilities, safeguards, and commitments.

90-Day Goals

• Build deep context on Notion AI’s product surface, roadmap, and risk posture.
• Ship a practical AI contracting and model-review playbook.
• Integrate AI tools into your own legal practice for redlining and risk assessment.

Year 1 Goals

• Establish a scalable AI legal operating model for procurement, approvals, and regulatory tracking.
• Become a go-to advisor for AI launches, translating complex issues into durable guardrails.

Skills You'll Need

• 5+ years of product counseling experience (in-house preferred) with a focus on AI/ML-powered development.
• Experience reviewing and negotiating vendor agreements.
• AI and data licensing expertise, with the ability to partner effectively with Privacy and Security teams.
• Sound judgment in ambiguous environments; ability to make crisp risk calls.
• Demonstrated curiosity about AI and a willingness to adopt AI tools to work smarter.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the California Bar (or ability to register as in-house counsel in CA).
