Commercial Counsel - Notion

About the Role

Notion is seeking an experienced attorney to join our Commercial Counsel team. This senior role focuses on supporting our rapidly evolving Enterprise sales motions, negotiating complex AI SaaS agreements, and acting as a strategic advisor to our account teams. You will play a pivotal role in driving revenue deals to a predictable close while navigating complex AI, privacy, and security requirements.

Note: This role is hybrid, requiring presence in our San Francisco or New York offices on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

What You'll Achieve

• Lead negotiations for SaaS AI agreements and provide day-to-day commercial legal support for sales, marketing, and customer success teams.
• Collaborate with the Product Legal team on operational items impacting go-to-market initiatives.
• Draft and negotiate complex agreements involving privacy, security, and AI regulatory matters.
• Identify and implement process improvements for buy-side supporting motions.
• Develop and maintain contract templates and playbooks aligned with product and legal changes.

Skills You'll Need

• Admitted to the California or New York State Bar (or Registered In-House Counsel).
• 10+ years of combined experience in a law firm or software technology company.
• 2+ years of in-house experience at a SaaS or AI company.
• Subject matter expertise in privacy (GDPR, CCPA) and AI regulations (EU AI Act).
• Proven track record in driving enterprise B2B SaaS transactions.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills with the ability to explain nuanced legal concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated curiosity about AI and a willingness to adopt AI tools to enhance productivity.
• Resilience and the ability to make strategic decisions with imperfect information.

Nice to Haves

• Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or equivalent.
• Experience supporting channel/reseller partnerships or financial services customers.
• Familiarity with the Notion platform.
