
About the Role
Oyster is looking for a sharp, self-driven Employment Counsel to contribute to our growth and shape the future of global distributed work. As part of our Employment Law Team, you will advise internal teams and external stakeholders on employment law matters across multiple jurisdictions, playing a direct role in how Oyster supports workers and companies globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Template Management: Own and maintain employment templates, policies, and processes across multiple jurisdictions to ensure compliance and scalability.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Monitor global legislative developments, assess their impact on Oyster’s products, and drive necessary implementation.
- Cross-functional Partnership: Collaborate with Product and People teams to design compliant employment solutions that balance legal requirements with business objectives.
- Lifecycle Advisory: Advise on the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, compensation, leave, performance management, and terminations.
- Strategic Support: Support initiatives such as Direct Expansion, indirect-to-direct migrations, and the launch of new employment products.
- Innovation: Champion the use of AI and automation to improve team efficiency and reduce manual workflows.
Core Requirements
- Qualifications: Law Degree (JD or equivalent) and admission to practice law in one or more jurisdictions.
- Experience: 4+ years of employment law practice, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house experience.
- EOR Expertise: Solid understanding of the Employer of Record (EOR) model and its unique legal challenges.
- Global Mindset: Experience managing multi-jurisdictional and cross-border employment matters.
- Communication: Ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
- Tech-Forward: Curiosity and comfort with leveraging AI and automation tools.
- Availability: Must have at least 3-4 hours of overlap with Central European Time (CET/CEST).
