About the Role

We're looking for a SDK Engineer - JavaScript to join the SDK team and own a core part of how developers talk to Supabase from JavaScript and TypeScript. Our JS/TS SDKs are the front door to the platform, used by a vast number of developers and AI coding tools.

This is a library-authoring role where work happens in the open. You will be responsible for API design, type safety, and ensuring a seamless developer experience across various runtimes.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve: Maintain and improve our JavaScript/TypeScript SDKs.
• Innovate: Identify missing features, make the case for them, and build them from scratch.
• Work in the open: Manage public repositories, triage issues, review contributions, and maintain release automation.
• Type ownership: Ensure generated database types flow correctly through client APIs for accurate inference and autocomplete.
• Cross-runtime support: Ensure compatibility across Node, Deno, Bun, browsers, Cloudflare Workers, and React Native/Expo.
• Realtime: Manage long-lived WebSocket connections, subscriptions, and presence semantics.
• Platform alignment: Keep SDKs updated with changes in Auth, Realtime, Storage, and Edge Runtime.
• Design in public: Write RFCs, migration guides, and documentation.
• AI Optimization: Ensure SDKs are legible and effective for AI coding agents.

Requirements

• Expert-level TypeScript: Deep understanding of generics, conditional, and mapped types.
• Library maintenance: Experience authoring or maintaining published libraries with public APIs.
• Open-source experience: Proven track record of issue triage, PR reviews, and managing semver/releases.
• Packaging fluency: Expertise in npm, dual ESM/CJS builds, export maps, and type resolution.
• Testing: Habit of writing unit, type-level, and end-to-end tests.
• Communication: Strong written skills for design docs, changelogs, and async collaboration.
• Autonomy: Ability to scope, ship, and manage work in a fast-paced, distributed environment.
