About the Role
We’re seeking a skilled and diligent full-time Frontend Engineer to own the technical direction and architecture of Tailscale’s next-generation web console. You will build frontend infrastructure that enables multiple products to ship within a unified experience, with a focus on identity-adjacent systems, authentication, and secure cross-origin integrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture: Define and drive the frontend architecture, including application structure, routing, and shared abstractions.
- Infrastructure: Design cross-origin authentication and session infrastructure (CORS, CSRF, session strategies).
- Platform Engineering: Build a frontend serving platform capable of hosting multiple products under a unified workflow.
- Developer Experience: Create patterns and tooling that enable non-frontend engineers to build accessible, production-quality UI.
- Collaboration: Partner with Product Design, Growth, and Infrastructure teams on experimentation, A/B testing, and analytics.
- Quality & Mentorship: Raise the quality bar through technical leadership, code reviews, and mentoring.
- Operations: Participate in an on-call rotation to triage and mitigate incidents.
What We Are Looking For
- Deep experience building and operating production React applications at scale.
- Strong understanding of web platform fundamentals (HTTP, browser security, auth flows, cookies, CORS).
- Experience building internal platforms, frameworks, or shared libraries.
- Strong judgment around frontend architecture and scalable testing strategies.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and influence technical direction.
- High degree of ownership and autonomy.
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI-assisted development tooling and conventions.
- Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.
- Experience with feature flagging, analytics, and progressive delivery.
- Background in identity, B2B SaaS, or security-sensitive product surfaces.
What We Offer
- Competitive total compensation (base salary + equity).
- Comprehensive group benefits with no waiting period.
- Remote-first culture with annual retreats and team off-sites.
- $1,500 USD annual professional development budget.
- Flexible paid time off and parental leave top-ups.
- Home office setup: Company-provided laptop, monthly internet reimbursement, and $500 USD for workstation customization.
