Senior Software Engineer, Nexus Server - Temporal

As a Senior Software Engineer at Temporal, you will design, build, and maintain significant portions of backend functionality for highly scalable, multi-tenant Nexus services. Nexus is Temporal's durable execution framework for orchestrating work across team and application boundaries, improving modularity, security, debugging, and fault isolation. You will own key distributed systems components such as durable execution and async processing, and expand our ability to invoke workflows through industry-standard protocols. This role is within the highly collaborative Compute and Artificial Intelligence organization, where we are building new enterprise offerings for both on-premise and dedicated cloud environments. Temporal is a fully-remote company that values asynchronous communication and open-source contributions, with public PRs and comments for our SDKs. We expect you to deliver highly reliable, well-tested code, upholding our 'Reliable as Gravity' standard.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement core backend service features for Nexus.
• Ensure comprehensive test coverage (unit, integration, performance) for your feature areas.
• Document design choices and operational knowledge for successful service deployment and operation.
• Provide service-level logs and metrics to operationalize features for cloud service setup.
• Create alerts, dashboards, and runbooks for production environments.

What You'll Bring

• At least 6 years of experience in a production environment as an "Arranger" and/or "Builder/Enhancer" of highly scalable distributed systems.
• Solid computer science fundamentals in distributed systems concepts, including multi-threading and concurrency.
• 2+ years of experience developing customer-facing APIs and Frameworks.
• Experience writing concurrent code in production with languages like Go or Java (or other applicable languages) at a high-end Intermediate, Advanced, or Expert level.
