Finance Manager - Thanx

Fully remoteFull-timeMid-level$96K - $129KUTC-8–-4Americas#Excel#gaap#accountingEquity

Who Are We?

Thanx is a leading loyalty and guest engagement platform for regional and national restaurants. We help brands drive profitable growth by increasing guest frequency, growing digital sales, and reducing reliance on discounts. Most loyalty platforms work for guests who are already loyal. Thanx unifies loyalty, digital ordering, and marketing automation in one platform that turns first-time and casual guests into regulars, treating loyalty as a business outcome, not a program, and engaging across the entire guest base.

Thanx has raised more than $30M from elite investors including M33 Growth, Ribbit Capital, and Sequoia Capital. Our success is rooted in a culture that has attracted top talent across the country, and we are proud of strong employee tenure, a track record of internal promotions, and our company-wide shift to working AI-native over the last 18 months.

Who Are You?

This is not a role for someone who simply manages processes or checks boxes. We're looking for a true operator: someone who takes ownership, gets into the details, solves problems independently, and continuously looks for ways to make things better.

We're also building an AI-first finance culture. We're looking for someone who is already comfortable using AI tools in their day-to-day work and is excited to rethink traditional accounting and finance processes through automation, technology, and better systems.

Everyone at Thanx has equity and is expected to operate like an owner. That means real intensity, including evenings and weekends when the work calls for it.

About the Role

We're looking for a highly motivated, hands-on Finance Manager to own our core accounting operations and help build a scalable finance function as Thanx continues to grow.

You'll be responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of our financial reporting, including month-end close, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and billing operations. You'll work directly with the VP of Finance and collaborate across the organization to ensure our financial foundation is strong and our processes scale efficiently.

Our Use of AI and Expectations

AI Resources Provided

  • Real token budgets: Claude and OpenAI accounts with allowances designed not to constrain your output.
  • Keystone: Internally-built infrastructure housing systems, MCPs, and sanitized data in a single place.
  • The Grid: Internal sharing platform to exchange tooling, systems, and co-create with other Thanxers.
  • Show-and-tell: Regular knowledge sharing and building in public to maintain a steep learning curve.

Expectations for Finance

  • Automate repetitive finance processes: Identify opportunities to automate manual workflows across month-end close, billing, reconciliations, AR, expense management, and financial reporting.
  • Build smarter financial reporting and analysis: Use AI to accelerate financial analysis, variance explanations, forecasting, and management reporting.
  • Maintain strong financial controls: Balance innovation with accuracy, data security, human review, and sound accounting practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close: Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and maintain general ledger accuracy.
  • Manage revenue recognition: Apply GAAP to deferred revenue and customer contract accounting, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Oversee billing operations: Ensure invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned with contract terms. Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Merchant Operations to resolve issues and maintain consistent data across Salesforce, Bill.com, and accounting systems.
  • Lead reporting and audit readiness: Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages with supporting schedules and variance analysis; support board, investor, and lender reporting; coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Partner on strategic finance: Support the VP of Finance on forecasting, budgeting, unit economics, margin analysis, and M&A diligence.

What We're Looking For

  • 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, ideally combining public accounting and hands-on operating experience at a high-growth company.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred but not required).
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, including accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience independently managing month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with SaaS accounting, subscription billing, or recurring revenue models is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets (required).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to improve workflows and analysis.
  • Ability to identify manual, repetitive processes and translate them into scalable, technology-enabled workflows.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Bill.com, and modern accounting systems is a plus.
