Senior Engineering Manager, Database - TigerData

About the Role

We’re looking for an exceptional engineering leader for the Database team, which owns TimescaleDB and other core products. You’ll lead multiple teams focused on dedicated areas of the product, own execution, take stake in creating an achievable roadmap, establish a bottom-up culture, stay close enough to the tech to help make design decisions, and be an awesome person to work with. You must have a strong track record of managing high-performing systems engineering teams and deep familiarity with database or systems software.

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow, and mentor a globally distributed team of database internals engineers, owning hiring, performance management, career development, and team health.
• Own team execution and set the technical roadmap with Product, balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
• Partner closely with the Platform Engineering team and other engineering leaders to build a world-class experience for customers on Tiger Cloud.
• Engage with high-value customers on escalations and elevated technical needs, translating experiences into priorities.
• Set a high bar and help the broader engineering organization succeed.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years managing engineers or engineering teams.
• A track record of building and leading high-performing teams that ship industrial-strength systems software.
• Strong technical depth in distributed systems or databases; experience with C/C++ on large code bases is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL internals is a strong plus (though not required).
• Solid knowledge of SQL, query processing and database engines, concurrency control, data replication, and/or distributed systems.
• Passion for building highly reliable system software and developing the people who build it.
