Senior Energy Markets Manager - Voltus

The Role

Voltus is the leading DER technology platform and virtual power plant operator, connecting distributed energy resources to electricity markets to deliver less expensive, more reliable, and more sustainable electricity. MISO is one of our fastest growing markets, and we're looking for a Senior Manager to help lead that charge. This role involves embracing ambiguity and uncharted territory as the market matures.

You'll serve as a key relationship-builder and figurehead for our MISO strategy, working directly with utilities, grid operators, and policymakers to track and react to changing market design. You'll synthesize what those changes mean for our existing customers, new deals, product roadmap, and sales approach, and communicate that clearly across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Own the MISO book: Be accountable for the revenue and profitability of our MISO DER portfolio, including financial modeling, forecasting, and performance optimization.
• Market Design Expert: Act as our eyes and ears on market design. Work directly with MISO and other RTO/ISO staff to track evolving market rules and translate implications for customers, Product, and the Energy Markets team.
• Relationship Management: Develop and sustain relationships with MISO staff, utility representatives, and DER/technology partners.
• Team Leadership: Directly manage a small team, delegate effectively, coach, and grow their skills.
• Cross-functional Leadership: Act as a general project manager across Sales, Product, Engineering, and Operations to drive decisions and keep initiatives on track.
• Strategic Prioritization: Prioritize ruthlessly and adaptively as market conditions shift.
• Operational Onboarding: Lead the operational onboarding of new resource types (e.g., batteries) and new technology/DER partners into our MISO portfolio.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in energy markets, demand response, or a closely related field.
• A track record of effectively managing a team.
• Natural relationship-builder with the ability to build trust quickly with internal and external teams.
• Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills; preference for experience with SQL and/or Python.
• Excellent cross-functional project management instincts.
• Gritty, energized by ambiguity, and comfortable in a fast-changing market landscape.
• Bonus: Experience managing or onboarding battery storage assets or working directly with an RTO/ISO (MISO experience a strong plus).

• Location: While Voltus is an all-remote workplace, we have limitations on where employees are able to work for regulatory and security reasons. Employees are expected to work primarily from their home country.
