Technical Program Manager - Zapier

As a Technical Program Manager, you'll be the execution engine for our engineering org's day-to-day operations. You'll own the operating cadence, manage critical initiatives from intake through launch, drive alignment and standardization across teams, and build the frameworks that help engineering leaders make faster, better-informed decisions. You're not an engineer, but you're deeply comfortable in an engineering environment—and you'll work across teams where you have no direct authority, moving things forward through clear thinking, reliable follow-through, and influence.

About You

• Program Management Experience: You have a track record of running cross-functional programs end-to-end—taking ownership from concept through execution and close, across teams where you didn't have direct authority.
• Adaptability: You're comfortable operating in ambiguity and fast-paced change; you don't wait for a perfect process to exist, you build it as you go.
• Technical Fluency: You're technically fluent with modern operations tools (Jira, Coda, Slack, modern AI tools) and can write clear technical documentation like architecture decision records without needing an engineer to translate for you.
• Framework Building: You have experience building frameworks, intake systems, or governance models that teams actually used beyond their original scope—you know what sticks.
• Engineering Operations: You've worked in or closely with engineering organizations, ideally in an operations capacity (running operating reviews, managing incidents, supporting org health and change).
• Communication: You're data-comfortable, proactive, and good at communicating asynchronously and adjusting your message for different audiences—you keep people informed before they ask.
• Generalist Mindset: You're a generalist by nature, can pick up unfamiliar domains quickly, and have a low ego about what kind of work needs doing.
• Bonus: You've done Atlassian or Jira administration, or you're comfortable learning tooling ecosystems quickly.

Things You’ll Do

• Operating Cadence: Establish and run the engineering operating cadence: stand up and facilitate monthly operating reviews, planning cycles, and cross-functional decision forums; maintain visibility into what's coming and what needs coordination.
• Intake Management: Design and manage the intake process for engineering initiatives: define what gets started, ensure every initiative has a clear goal, success metric, responsible team, and strategy alignment, and close the loop on outcomes.
• Standardization: Drive standardization and reduce duplication across engineering teams: define shared templates, standards, and operating norms; track commitments across teams and follow through to completion.
• Operational Excellence: Partner on strengthening incident and operational excellence: support the maturation of incident management practices, postmortem discipline, and cross-team follow-through on action items.
• Org Health: Steward engineering organization health and engagement: own the end-to-end cycle for engagement and pulse surveys, drive the cadence to close loops on feedback, and support the operational side of calibration and performance review cycles.
• Change Management: Program-manage organizational changes and readiness for major shifts in how the org works; ensure operational prerequisites (access, provisioning, tooling) are addressed and that teams are ready to move.
• Governance: Run the product feedback and AI tooling governance loop: route product feedback with evidence to the right stakeholders; help establish how the engineering org makes decisions around autonomous AI actions against critical systems.
• Portfolio Ownership: Own current portfolio initiatives: stabilize and evolve systems like the changelog and results-tracking system, Product Readiness Framework, and design operating-model support—ensuring they actually solve the problems they were built to solve.
• Collaboration: Work closely with engineering leadership, engineering managers, product, and design to coordinate across zones and keep the org operating smoothly even as priorities shift.
