About 1Password
1Password is building the foundation for a safe, productive digital future. Our mission is to unleash employee productivity without compromising security by ensuring every identity is authentic, every application sign-in is secure, and every device is trusted. We innovated the market-leading enterprise password manager and pioneered Unified Access Management, a new cybersecurity category. As one of the most loved brands in cybersecurity, we take a human-centric approach in everything from product strategy to user experience. Over 180,000 businesses trust 1Password to help their teams securely adopt the SaaS and AI tools they need.
The Opportunity: Engineering Manager, Credential Governance
This role is for an Engineering Manager to guide our high-visibility Credential Governance product through launch and into maturity. You will lead a team building the governance capabilities that help enterprises secure critical credentials and get more value from 1Password. You’ll also help define how 1Password manages company-owned credentials as organizations and their teams grow.
Credential Governance closes the gap between the credentials a company uses and the credentials it can see. It gives enterprise administrators a central view of company-owned credentials across employee and shared vaults, enabling them to take ownership, control how they’re accessed, and manage that access over time.
What We're Looking For
- Several years of experience managing engineers and leading the development and operation of a production service.
- A working understanding of web development and backend technologies. You don’t need to write code, but you should be able to engage with complex technical problems, ask thoughtful questions, and help the team make sound decisions.
- A track record of building a healthy team environment where people feel supported, challenged, and able to do their best work.
- Experience leading project delivery and maintaining a roadmap that connects near-term execution to longer-term goals.
- Strong judgment about when to accept short-term friction in service of long-term value, and when to build the smallest solution that will generate the most learning.
- Experience growing teams and operating services as their scope and complexity increase.
- Experience managing a remote or distributed team.
- Good judgment about when and how to use artificial intelligence tools to move faster while maintaining a high quality bar.
What You Can Expect
- Set the team’s strategic direction and connect it to company objectives.
- Build alignment and accountability around team goals and results.
- Partner with senior engineers and technical leaders to develop the team’s technical vision.
- Work with product, design, and other cross-functional partners to define solutions for customers.
- Scope and plan key deliverables, then guide the team through execution.
- Set a high quality bar through incremental delivery, clear communication, and continuous feedback.
- Balance experiments that test product-market fit with investments in durable, maintainable products.
- Provide technical leadership across the engineering organization.
- Coach and mentor engineers as they grow their skills and careers.
- Recruit and retain strong team members in an evolving environment.
How We Use AI
Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams are thoughtfully integrating AI across the full software and product development lifecycle to move faster without sacrificing quality or security. This includes engineers using AI-assisted coding tools, product managers synthesizing user research at scale, and designers rapidly prototyping and iterating with AI-generated mockups. We approach AI with clear principles, human accountability at every consequential decision point, and rigorous evaluation.
We are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology—including AI—to achieve our mission. We want team members at all levels to take the approach of actively learning AI best practices, identifying opportunities to apply AI in meaningful ways, and driving innovative solutions in their daily work.
Our Culture
At 1Password, we prioritize collaboration, clear and transparent communication, receptiveness to feedback, and alignment with our core values: keep it simple, lead with honesty, and put people first. You’ll be part of a team that challenges the status quo, and is excited to experiment and iterate in search of the best solution. Our work is demanding, we strive for excellence, and the pace is fast. We need people who are keen to take on challenging problems, who seek feedback to grow, and who are driven to make an impact.
Our Approach to Remote Work
We believe in the power of remote work, but recognize that in-person connection is important to help us achieve our mission. While we are a remote-first company, travel for in-person engagement is a part of almost all roles, and we require our employees to be ready and willing to take part. Frequency will depend on role and responsibilities, and may include, but is not limited to: annual department-wide offsites, team meetings, and customer/industry events. Remote work at 1Password means working from your home country.
