
About the Role
Canonical is hiring an Associate Support Engineer to support the technical needs of customers leveraging Ubuntu and open-source products. This is a hands-on role for an engineer with a passion for Linux and open-source technologies to work with industry experts in a globally distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for customers via telephone, email, and web.
- Own and manage support cases from problem qualification to full resolution.
- Act as an internal customer advocate, ensuring timely updates and SLA compliance.
- Contribute to and maintain the knowledge base.
- Draft and distribute technical notices for internal and external communication.
- Understand the Ubuntu development process to set accurate customer expectations.
- Participate in a regular weekend working rotation.
- Maintain regular communication with a globally distributed team.
What We Are Looking For
- Exceptional academic track record (High School and University).
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject (Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.) or a compelling alternative path.
- Experience with Linux troubleshooting (logs, stack traces, configuration files).
- Knowledge or hands-on experience in at least two of the following:
- Linux server administration
- Programming fundamentals (bash, Perl, Ruby, Javascript, C/C++, Go)
- Networking (bonding, firewalling, bridging, switching, MTU)
- Virtualization/Cloud computing concepts
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks).
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience supporting virtualized environments (KVM, Virtual Box, VMWare).
- Experience with other open-source desktop technologies.
- Active contribution to open-source projects, forums, or code.
