About the Role

Canonical is seeking an Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager to lead a regionally-focused team of Field Engineers across the Americas. You will oversee Presales and Professional Services activities, guiding customers through solution architecture, design, and delivery for mission-critical IoT and edge computing projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Field Engineers ranging from graduate to senior levels.
  • Strategic Planning: Drive progress on agreed goals, projects, and engineering excellence initiatives.
  • Customer Success: Act as a trusted advisor, solving complex customer problems and promoting Canonical’s technologies (Ubuntu, Ubuntu Core).
  • Operational Excellence: Implement disciplined engineering processes and identify team health indicators.
  • Stakeholder Management: Represent your team to internal product/engineering teams and external partners/customers.
  • Collaboration: Partner with the leadership team and provide critical market feedback to shape the future of Ubuntu.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education: Exceptional academic track record; undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a compelling alternative path.
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience with embedded Linux (Yocto or similar) and Linux distributions (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).
  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage a small team, coach, and provide career development feedback.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate the business benefits of technology.
  • Professionalism: Result-oriented, humble learner, and highly accountable.
  • Travel: Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks per trip).
  • Bonus Traits: RTOS experience, multilingual skills, and experience in distributed, remote-first companies.
