
The Role
As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, you will lead a distributed team, balancing technical leadership with people management. You will drive the development of MLOps and analytics solutions, ensuring your team remains productive, unblocked, and aligned with strategic goals.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Manage a distributed team, conduct 1-on-1s, and measure team health.
- Technical Oversight: Review code, provide architectural leadership, and maintain high standards for documentation and performance.
- Strategy: Collaborate with product managers and architects to define and execute the engineering roadmap.
- Mentorship: Foster the professional growth of direct reports and facilitate their career development.
- Representation: Act as a brand ambassador at conferences and within the open-source community.
- Travel: Participate in internal and external events globally (2–4 weeks per year).
Requirements
- Proven track record in professional software delivery.
- Professional Python development experience, ideally with open-source contributions.
- Deep understanding of the machine learning landscape and MLOps solution design.
- Exceptional academic background (high school and university).
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times per year.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ML libraries (Kubeflow, MLFlow, Feast).
- Proficiency in container technologies (Docker, LXD, Kubernetes).
- Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Background in Linux and open-source software development.
