
About the Role
Canonical is hiring a Go (Golang) Software Engineer to build a new open-source developer experience tool. You will rethink developer workflows, bridging the gap between traditional Linux environments and modern cloud-native/immutable distro requirements. This role involves deep integration with Ubuntu desktop, modern IDEs, and SDKs from industry leaders like NVIDIA, Intel, and AMD.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement new capabilities for developer tooling.
- Write high-quality, robust, and secure code.
- Focus on performance and correctness across diverse use cases.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to solve complex developer environment challenges.
What We Are Looking For
- Professional software development experience using Go, Python, C, or C++.
- Strong knowledge of Linux system-level fundamentals (e.g., cgroups, namespaces).
- Intellectual honesty, accountability, and strong communication skills.
- Exceptional academic track record (high school and university).
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or equivalent experience.
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with LXC/LXD.
- Background in AI/ML, CUDA, or OpenVINO.
- Knowledge of system and language package manager internals.
