About the Role

Canonical is hiring a Go (Golang) Software Engineer to build a new open-source developer experience tool. You will rethink developer workflows, bridging the gap between traditional Linux environments and modern cloud-native/immutable distro requirements. This role involves deep integration with Ubuntu desktop, modern IDEs, and SDKs from industry leaders like NVIDIA, Intel, and AMD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new capabilities for developer tooling.
  • Write high-quality, robust, and secure code.
  • Focus on performance and correctness across diverse use cases.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to solve complex developer environment challenges.

What We Are Looking For

  • Professional software development experience using Go, Python, C, or C++.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux system-level fundamentals (e.g., cgroups, namespaces).
  • Intellectual honesty, accountability, and strong communication skills.
  • Exceptional academic track record (high school and university).
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with LXC/LXD.
  • Background in AI/ML, CUDA, or OpenVINO.
  • Knowledge of system and language package manager internals.
