Golang Engineering Manager, Commercial Systems - Canonical

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Golang Engineering Manager to lead teams within our Commercial Systems unit. You will be responsible for the development of internal products, maintaining high engineering standards, and fostering the growth of your direct reports. This role is pivotal in supporting Canonical's global growth through innovative engineering solutions.

The Commercial Systems Unit

This unit consists of six collaborative engineering teams. We are currently hiring for:

• Billing Team: Develops services to turn metrics into billable amounts, integrating with payment systems and business infrastructure.
• Livepatch Team: Develops Golang-based client and backend components for the delivery of Linux kernel patches to minimize exploit windows.

Key Responsibilities

• Accountability for the design and development of internal products.
• Leading and mentoring a team of software engineers.
• Developing the skills and capabilities of direct reports.
• Seeking continuous improvements to processes, designs, and solutions.
• Building a deep understanding of business needs to maximize impact.

What We Are Looking For

• Exceptional academic track record (high school and university).
• Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative of an alternative path.
• Proven track record of going above-and-beyond to achieve results.
• Professional experience with high-level languages (Golang, Python, Java, etc.).
• Excellent written and spoken English with strong presentation skills.
• Result-oriented mindset with a drive to meet commitments.
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks).

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Performance engineering and SRE experience.
• Experience with accounting, sales, or sales operations.
