Group Financial Controller - Canonical

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Group Financial Controller to join our global finance team. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of our financial information, designing robust governance frameworks, and leveraging technology and AI to build efficient accounting workflows. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Governance & Compliance: Develop and implement controls to mitigate financial risks, monitor compliance with policies, and stay updated on evolving regulatory frameworks.
  • Financial Reporting: Manage weekly, month-end, and year-end processes, including balance sheet reconciliations, management accounts, and statutory accounts preparation.
  • Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to scale finance operations, including upgrading ERP systems and integrating AI-driven workflows.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external audits, tax authorities, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Mentor junior accounting staff and promote best practices across the organization.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualifications: Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent) with an exceptional academic track record.
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive practical IFRS knowledge and experience with enterprise-level accounting or ERP systems.
  • Data Skills: Advanced Excel proficiency and strong data analysis capabilities.
  • Mindset: A methodical, detail-oriented problem solver with a passion for technology, AI, and software engineering.
  • Communication: Confident interpersonal skills to engage effectively with global stakeholders.
  • Flexibility: Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks per trip).

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with NetSuite or Salesforce.
  • Background in a Big 4 Accounting Firm or a public company.
