
About the Role
Canonical is seeking an Information Systems (IS) Architect to define best practices for infrastructure-as-code at a global scale. You will own the design of hardware and software implementation, from PCI lanes to CDN, impacting the Ubuntu user experience for millions of users.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Vision: Define and implement a holistic vision for a world-class internal cloud.
- Technical Roadmap: Maintain design guidelines for SREs to improve reliability, resilience, and scalability.
- Collaboration: Partner with cloud-ops software development teams to build highly standardized, automated operations.
- Leadership: Lead technical choices for self-service products and advise IS management on business cases and technology.
- Security: Collaborate with security teams to set best practices and mitigate threats.
- Operational Excellence: Automate operations for distributed systems and analyze incidents to establish structural improvements.
What We Are Looking For
- Exceptional academic track record (undergraduate degree in a technical subject or equivalent experience).
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and operations.
- Practical expertise in Linux networking, routing, firewalls, and large-scale bandwidth networking.
- Proven experience in incident response, postmortems, and managing production outages.
- Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal).
- Passion for open-source software, specifically Ubuntu or Debian.
- Confidence to share ideas and provide constructive feedback.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Modern software engineering background (peer-review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, Agile).
- Hands-on experience with automatic administration of enterprise Linux servers at scale.
