Linux Desktop Support Engineer (London UK office) - Canonical

About the Role

Canonical is looking for a Linux Desktop Support Engineer to join our London office. This role is an opportunity to kickstart your career by delivering technical support to our employees and customers, while also facilitating AV support for office conferences and events. You will own and manage your cases from qualification to resolution, acting as a trusted peer and technical guide to external engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Empathetic Engagement: Partner directly with customers via remote sessions, ticketing, and live conversations to resolve technical roadblocks.
• Collaborative Problem Solving: Work with internal engineering teams to bridge the gap between complex code fixes and customer satisfaction.
• True Ownership: Manage support cases with personal integrity, ensuring commitments are honored and expectations are communicated transparently.
• Ubuntu Lifecycle Guidance: Provide customers with clear, human context regarding the Ubuntu development process and engineering fix timelines.
• Knowledge Advocacy: Author and maintain accessible knowledge base articles to elevate the open-source community.
• Operational Reliability: Participate in a regular weekend working rotation to maintain high-touch continuity of care.

• Linux & Cloud Familiarity: Hands-on experience supporting Linux systems, with exposure to at least three of the following:
  • Virtualization & Cloud (KVM, OpenStack)
  • Containers (Docker, LXD/LXC, Kubernetes)
  • Storage Ecosystems (Block, object, network storage)
  • System Networking (Bonding, firewalls, bridging, switching, MTU tuning)
• Analytical Curiosity: Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to parse stack traces and logs.
• Development Fundamentals: Basic programming logic to help parse code and collaborate with engineering teams.
