Linux Platform Integration - Ubuntu Systems Senior Engineer

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Senior Engineer to work across the full Linux stack—from kernel through networking, virtualization, and graphics—to optimize Ubuntu for the latest silicon. You will partner with major silicon companies to integrate next-generation features and performance enhancements for upcoming hardware, impacting the adoption of Linux across server, desktop, and IoT industries.

What You Will Do

• Design and implement Ubuntu integration for IoT, desktop, and server-class hardware.
• Collaborate with partners to deliver an optimized, first-class Ubuntu experience.
• Take a holistic approach to technical plans, testing strategies, and quality metrics.
• Serve as a technical lead on customer engagements involving system architectures from cloud to edge.
• Assist partners in integrating apps, SDKs, building device OS images, and optimizing applications with Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server.

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or equivalent.
• Experience with Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, Yocto).
• Proficiency in Python, C, and C++.
• Experience working with open source communities and licenses.
• Ability to work effectively in a globally distributed team with self-discipline.

Nice to Have

• Experience with server technologies (UEFI, GPU computing, RDMA/Infiniband, virtualization).
• Knowledge of graphics stacks and networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST).
• Understanding of security best practices in IoT or server environments.
• Experience with CI automation (GitHub), performance benchmarking, and Docker/K8s.
• Embedded experience (SoC, BMCs, bootloaders, firmware).
• Public speaking or strong communication skills.
