About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Data Center Infrastructure Engineer to manage and operate our MAAS (Metal as a Service) test labs in the Toronto area. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our lab, which supports Ubuntu server certification for leading silicon and server designs. This role requires a blend of hardware management, software-driven operations, and Python automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lab Operations: Operate a fully automated server lab with the latest server and network silicon from leading vendors, both remotely and on-site.
  • Hardware Management: Receive, install, configure, and maintain accurate inventory and layout of data center hardware.
  • Automation: Use Python development skills to enhance software-driven operations and improve hardware/network monitoring.
  • MAAS Integration: Actively exercise MAAS functionality using integrations like Testflinger; report issues and assist in troubleshooting.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with MAAS engineers, hardware specialists, kernel engineers, and partner engineering teams.

Requirements

  • STEM Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science or Software Engineering preferred).
  • Strong Linux Administration experience.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Proven data center experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and work within a globally distributed team.
  • Exceptional academic track record.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
