
About the Role
Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager for the BootStack team. You will lead a team of engineers responsible for the day-to-day managed services of customer environments, including OpenStack and Kubernetes. This role balances technical leadership with operational excellence, ensuring high-quality service delivery and team growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a growing engineering team to optimize development and operational velocity.
- Implement disciplined engineering and operations processes.
- Define and track team health indicators.
- Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, customers, and external teams.
- Ensure team alignment on priorities, milestones, and deliverables.
- Maintain service level agreements (SLAs) for global customer deployments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a technology field.
- Proven professional experience in software delivery (Python, Go, C, C++, Java) or managing operations teams.
- Strong experience with OpenStack.
- Demonstrated commitment to testing methodologies and maintainable code quality.
- Experience with Linux system administration (Ubuntu/Debian preferred).
- Strong communication and cooperation skills.
- Experience with agile methodologies and managing distributed teams.
- Technical aptitude for complex distributed systems and cloud topologies.
- Ability to travel for team events and customer meetings (approx. 20% or less).
