About the Role

Canonical is seeking outstanding Python Engineers to join our globally distributed team. This is a general track role hiring across all levels of seniority for teams working on Ubuntu, cloud platforms, data science, AI, and IoT initiatives. You will contribute to high-quality, idiomatic Python code that powers our enterprise-grade open-source software.

What Your Day Will Look Like

  • Write high-quality, well-designed, and well-tested Python software.
  • Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team.
  • Display technical leadership within Canonical and the broader open-source community.
  • Debug complex issues and maintain high-quality codebases.
  • Contribute to comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Work from home with mandatory global travel twice a year for company events.

What We Are Looking For

  • Exceptional academic track record (Computer Science or STEM degree preferred).
  • Drive and a proven track record of going above-and-beyond expectations.
  • Experience writing thoroughly designed, modern, and maintainable Python.
  • Strong conscientiousness, detail orientation, and focus on performance.
  • Professional written and spoken English.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for up to two weeks per event.

Additional Skills (Bonus)

  • Container technologies: LXD, Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Golang, Rust, C, or C++.
  • Web or Flutter front-end experience.
  • REST and gRPC API expertise.
  • SQL and NoSQL data store knowledge.
  • Experience with public clouds, OpenStack, or Debian/Ubuntu packaging.
