Python Engineer - Data Center Hardware Integration (Taipei)

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Python Engineer to manage and operate our server lab in Taipei. This facility serves as a central hub for Ubuntu server certification for US-based silicon and server designs. You will be responsible for software-defined hardware management, data center automation (MAAS), vendor interaction, and physical lab operations.

What your day will look like

• Lab Operations: Own a fully automated server lab featuring the latest server and network silicon.
• Software Development: Use Python to develop and extend Metal as a Service (MAAS) software to support diverse hardware.
• Integration: Expand MAAS functionality by creating integrations with testing and scheduling tools like Testflinger.
• Physical Management: Manage the physical lab setup, ensure it is well-structured, and execute hardware changes.
• Standardization: Collaborate with global data center teams to standardize processes, configurations, and procedures.
• Monitoring: Improve and extend hardware and network monitoring through automation.
• Asset Management: Maintain accurate records of lab hardware and perform firmware updates as needed.

What we are looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Strong Linux Administration experience.
• Experience with both rack-mount and virtualized systems.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Strong time management and ability to handle competing priorities.
• Ability to work effectively within a globally distributed team.
• Exceptional academic track record.
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
