
About the Role
Canonical is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the MAAS (Metal As A Service) team. You will help shape the future of our hyperscale provisioning technology, ensuring Ubuntu remains the most scalable, cloud-ready server distribution. This role involves working with a globally distributed team to solve complex challenges in performance, networking, and storage.
Responsibilities
- Develop core MAAS components and features to advance our bare metal cloud system.
- Architect solutions to improve MAAS usability, speed, and simplicity.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure seamless integration and timely releases.
- Enhance continuous integration, testing practices, and documentation.
- Take personal ownership of technical problems and drive them to resolution.
- Participate in international travel (up to 4 times per year) for team strategy and alignment.
Requirements
- Strong professional experience in Python and Go (back-end) or TypeScript and React (front-end).
- Deep knowledge of Linux server technologies (Virtualization, KVM, LXC).
- Expertise in networking (PXE, DHCP, TFTP, DNS, NTP) and storage technologies.
- Experience with Baseboard Management Controllers (Redfish, IPMI, AMT).
- Familiarity with open source tools like Launchpad, Debian packaging (APT, dpkg), and snapcraft.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and strong written/verbal English communication.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
- Passion for open source, Linux, and data center automation.
