About the Role

Canonical is hiring a Junior Developer to join our Observability team. You will help build a cloud-native, opinionated, and scalable monitoring stack that leverages best-in-class open-source tools. This role focuses on creating seamless user experiences for monitoring applications across Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare-metal, and virtual machines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate proactively within a globally distributed team.
  • Write, test, and document high-quality code for new features.
  • Debug issues and engage with the open-source community.
  • Review code produced by other engineers.
  • Represent Canonical and the Charmed Observability Stack at conferences.
  • Work from home with global travel 2–4 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Proven track record as a skilled Python developer, preferably with open-source experience.
  • Working knowledge of Go.
  • Passion for open source, Linux, Kubernetes, and Observability.
  • Experience or interest in two or more of the following: Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap, or distributed systems.
  • Strong soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated.
