
About the Role
Canonical is hiring a Junior Developer to join our Observability team. You will help build a cloud-native, opinionated, and scalable monitoring stack that leverages best-in-class open-source tools. This role focuses on creating seamless user experiences for monitoring applications across Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare-metal, and virtual machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate proactively within a globally distributed team.
- Write, test, and document high-quality code for new features.
- Debug issues and engage with the open-source community.
- Review code produced by other engineers.
- Represent Canonical and the Charmed Observability Stack at conferences.
- Work from home with global travel 2–4 weeks per year for internal and external events.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
- Proven track record as a skilled Python developer, preferably with open-source experience.
- Working knowledge of Go.
- Passion for open source, Linux, Kubernetes, and Observability.
- Experience or interest in two or more of the following: Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap, or distributed systems.
- Strong soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated.
