About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Cloud Engineering team. You will focus on building modelling software to drive systems such as OpenStack, Ceph, and Kubernetes, with a specific emphasis on distributed storage. You will engineer solutions for production-scale environments and collaborate with field teams to meet the needs of our enterprise customers.

What your day will look like

  • Write high-quality, rigorously designed Python and Golang software.
  • Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team.
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to resolve them.
  • Contribute to technical documentation defining best practices for operator development.
  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding optimal technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain software for the delivery, operations, and lifecycle management of Ceph storage.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience writing modern, maintainable Python.
  • Experience with Ceph storage.
  • Strong interest and experience in two or more of the following: Linux, Kubernetes, Public cloud, OpenStack, LXC/LXD, Go, or Debian packaging.
  • An exceptional academic track record.
  • Excellent soft skills: curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times a year for internal team sprints.

Additional Skills (Preferred)

  • Experience operating Ceph clusters in production.
  • Experience with open-source distributed storage (e.g., Gluster, Minio, Mayastor).
