
About the Role
Canonical is seeking Software Engineers to join the Data Platform team, focusing on the automation of search and analytics suites like OpenSearch and Elasticsearch. You will build enterprise-grade automation solutions, ensuring fault-tolerant replication, TLS, and seamless installation for multi-cloud and on-premise environments.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate proactively with an internationally distributed team.
- Write high-quality, idiomatic Python code to create new features.
- Debug complex issues and interact with upstream open-source communities.
- Work with talented engineers across diverse technical fields.
- Work remotely with global travel for 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven hands-on experience in software development using Python.
- Proven hands-on experience in distributed systems development.
- Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar degree.
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
Preferred Skills
Experience in any of the following will help determine your level:
- Operating and managing search/analytics engines (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, OpenSearch).
- Linux systems administration and package management.
- Public or private cloud solutions (e.g., OpenStack).
- Operating Kubernetes clusters for persistent data services.
