
About the Role
Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer for L3 Support to work on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. You will tackle critical issues across the entire stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph), networking (OVS/OVN), OpenStack, and Kubernetes.
This role requires deep technical troubleshooting, upstream bug fixing, and the ability to work productively at any level of the stack, including the kernel.
Key Responsibilities
- Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open-source software.
- Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and collaborate with upstream communities for inclusion.
- Maintain close working relationships with Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
- Review code produced by other engineers.
- Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation.
- Maintain clear, technical, and concise communications.
- Travel internationally up to 10% of the time for team meetings and events.
What We Are Looking For
- Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
- Strong experience with Linux and open-source software.
- Proficiency in at least one of: Python, Go, C, or C++.
- A drive to learn unfamiliar technology and deep-dive into difficult issues.
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Interest or experience in: Ubuntu Linux (kernel/userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Postgresql, Mongo, or Debian packaging.
- Strong soft skills: curious, flexible, articulate, and self-motivated.
