
About the Role
Canonical is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Server Certification team. You will develop Python-based testing tools to ensure Ubuntu Server performs optimally on the latest enterprise hardware. This role sits at the interface of hardware and software, requiring a problem-solving mindset and a deep understanding of server-class hardware.
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to open-source testing tools such as Checkbox and Testflinger.
- Troubleshoot hardware compatibility, functionality, and performance issues.
- Provide technical support to hardware partners (silicon companies, OEMs, ODMs) during certification efforts.
- Educate partners on Canonical’s tools, processes, and product roadmaps.
- Support internal teams on customer deployments of Datacenter and Cloud products.
- Work from home with global travel 2 to 4 times per year for internal and external events.
Who You Are
- Proficient in Python and shell scripting.
- Experienced with server-class hardware configuration and troubleshooting.
- Knowledgeable in Ubuntu, virtualization, and cloud computing concepts.
- Confident in a customer-facing, partner-focused role.
Desired Skills
- Experience with test automation tools for hardware validation.
- Knowledge of CI/CD concepts.
- Familiarity with virtualization or container technologies (QEMU, KVM, LXC/LXD, Docker).
