
About the Role
Canonical is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the reboot of our Landscape systems management solution. As we scale Ubuntu across cloud, bare metal, and edge environments, you will guide a team in modernizing our architecture to provide world-class policy, compliance, and patch management for global enterprise estates.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Build, lead, and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a healthy, collaborative, and high-performing culture.
- Technical Strategy: Drive the architectural evolution of Landscape, transitioning toward modern patterns while maintaining high-scale service reliability.
- Delivery: Collaborate with product managers to define roadmaps, set ambitious goals, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software.
- Hands-on Engineering: Contribute to code reviews, architectural decisions, and the implementation of automated testing and deployment pipelines.
- Stakeholder Management: Set expectations across engineering teams, business units, and the open-source community.
- Global Collaboration: Work in a distributed environment with 4-6 weeks of international travel per year for team sprints and events.
Valued Skills & Experience
- Proven track record of mentoring and developing engineering talent.
- Strong background in software development, specifically with Python or Golang.
- Experience with agile development methodologies and modern DevOps practices.
- Practical experience with Linux system administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
