Software Engineering Manager - Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure

About the Role

Canonical is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead teams building next-generation private cloud infrastructure. You will oversee the development of high-quality microservice architectures, focusing on KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies to create data center-scale cloud solutions.

What You Will Focus On

• Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of remote engineers, fostering career growth and high performance.
• Strategy & Execution: Set and manage expectations with stakeholders, senior management, and cross-functional teams.
• Technical Oversight: Participate in architectural reviews and code reviews; advocate for modern software development practices.
• Collaboration: Engage with the open-source community, partners, and internal teams at Canonical.
• Travel: Work from home with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

What We Are Looking For

• Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of Linux, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Leadership: Proven track record of leading successful, collaborative engineering teams and developing talent.
• Programming: Experience programming in C and/or Go.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Education: Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
