
About the Role
Canonical is seeking a Software Support Engineer to join our global engineering team. You will work across the full Linux-based infrastructure stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph), networking (OVS/OVN), OpenStack, and Kubernetes. This role is critical to the success of our enterprise customers, requiring you to troubleshoot complex issues and contribute upstream bug fixes.
Key Responsibilities
- Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, and Kubernetes.
- Develop, backport, and submit bug fixes to upstream projects.
- Maintain close collaboration with Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams.
- Participate in upstream open source communities.
- Review code produced by other engineers.
- Communicate technical solutions clearly and concisely.
- Travel internationally up to 10% of the time for team meetings and events.
Required Qualifications
- Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
- Strong experience with Linux and open source software.
- Proficiency in at least one of: Python, Go, C, or C++.
- A drive to learn unfamiliar technologies and deep-dive into difficult technical issues.
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience or interest in: Ubuntu Linux (kernel/userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Postgresql, Mongo, or Debian packaging.
- Strong soft skills, including being articulate, flexible, and self-motivated.
