Staff Engineer, Development Lifecycle - Canonical

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead our efforts in making Ubuntu the premier choice for mission-critical systems in automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics, and other highly regulated environments. You will bridge the gap between complex regulatory demands and engineering excellence, shaping the culture and practices that define our development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and challenge engineering culture to meet rigorous compliance and certification standards.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership to define and implement continuous improvement processes.
• Establish qualification requirements and define methods for measuring engineering quality.
• Unify agile approaches across multiple projects and teams to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes.
• Represent Canonical externally by building strategic relations with working groups, committees, and industry partners.

What We Are Looking For

• Strong experience in engineering and process management within an agile environment.
• Knowledge or certification of software quality standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 25010, ASPICE).
• A proven track record of developing and growing people and teams.
• Experience leading successful compliance and certification efforts, including stakeholder management.
• Proficiency with Linux.

Additional Skills

• Background as a software developer.
• Experience establishing product engineering development metrics and KPIs.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
