
About the Role
Canonical is seeking an astute and forward-thinking Tax Senior Associate to build our tax function from the ground up. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will design and own tax processes for our global entities, navigating complex and evolving international tax environments. We prioritize intellect and strategic thinking, looking for someone who can leverage technology to create a modern, scalable tax strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Manage and coordinate the preparation and review of corporate tax, VAT, and other returns to ensure timely, accurate filings.
- Strategy & Planning: Collaborate with external advisors on transfer pricing documentation and tax planning initiatives.
- Audit Management: Act as the primary point of contact for tax authority audits and inquiries.
- Process Optimization: Streamline tax processes, controls, and data management through automation and technology.
- Reporting: Manage tax provisioning and reporting under IFRS, including effective tax rate calculations and financial statement disclosures.
- Cross-functional Support: Partner with finance, legal, and business operations to ensure alignment.
- Legislative Monitoring: Track global tax legislation changes and assess their impact on the business.
What We Are Looking For
- Exceptional academic track record (undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, or quantitative field).
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and tax advisor (CTA, ADIT or equivalent).
- 3-5 years of relevant tax experience in a Big 4/Top 10 firm or multinational in-house team.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-tax stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, result-oriented, and comfortable working in a distributed environment.
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks long).
