About the Role

Close runs on Python: Flask web apps, TaskTiger, billions of MongoDB documents, and a public REST API. The Backend Platforms team owns the foundation underneath it all. You will be building for other engineers, creating the "paved road" for features, and developing our AI platform (DevDawg and Spice).

You Are

• A seasoned Python engineer: You set architectural patterns and are comfortable with Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Drawn to meta-problems: You want to change how features are built rather than just shipping features.
• AI-native: You have shipped meaningful LLM-backed or agentic work to production.
• Fluent in observability: You understand telemetry, metrics, tracing, and what production-ready means.
• Opinionated about API design: You have experience shipping internet-facing APIs.
• A builder first: You prefer shipping a v1 quickly over spending weeks on abstractions.

You Will

• Expand DevDawg (cloud dev environments) and Spice (automated review/root-cause tooling).
• Build the paved roads for our API layer (REST, GraphQL, auth, permissions).
• Modernize the backend framework layer (Flask to FastAPI migrations).
• Own production observability, metrics, and alerting.
• Set guardrails for coding agents (static analysis, linting, test harnesses).
