Senior Backend Engineer - CRM

Since 2013, we’ve been building a CRM that gets out of your way and helps your team sell more, faster. We are a bootstrapped, profitable, 120-person, 100% remote team building AI-powered sales software.

Our Stack

Our backend consists primarily of Python Flask web apps with TaskTiger for asynchronous task processing. Data stores include MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis. We run on AWS (EKS, MSK, RDS, ElastiCache) with infrastructure automated via Terraform and Ansible.

About the Role

The CRM team owns the core data model: leads, contacts, opportunities, tasks, and search. We are currently undertaking a major rearchitecture to modernize our data model for scaling businesses. You will help design the next version of Close and untangle the current one.

You Are

• A seasoned engineer: Python is our backbone, but you are comfortable with Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Architecturally minded: You have experience planning migrations that maintain uptime and sequencing complex rearchitectures.
• Data-focused: You enjoy working with schemas, normalization, and query design.
• Experienced in search: Elasticsearch expertise is a major bonus.
• AI-native: You have shipped LLM-backed features and use AI tools in your daily workflow.
• Battle-tested: You have experience debugging production incidents and owning high-impact systems.
• A builder: You prioritize shipping v1s and iterating over over-engineering.

You Will

• Rearchitect the core CRM data model to improve flexibility.
• Build tools and endpoints that allow agents to traverse, filter, and reason over CRM data.
• Ship AI-native features, including agentic enrichment and AI-powered search.
• Optimize hot paths to ensure the CRM remains fast for high-volume sales teams.
