Engineering Manager, Cloudflare Network Interconnect - Cloudflare

About the Role

The Cloudflare Network Interconnect (CNI) team builds and operates the systems that allow enterprise customers to connect their networks directly to Cloudflare via private, dedicated interconnects. These systems are critical infrastructure for products like Magic Transit, Cloudflare WAN, and Zero Trust.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead, mentor, and coach a distributed team of Software Engineers, shaping the team's culture and technical vision while collaborating with Product Managers to execute the roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering professional growth.
• Technical Strategy: Evaluate technical tradeoffs, contribute to design decisions, and empower engineers to lead implementation.
• Operational Excellence: Manage on-call rotations, handle customer escalations, and oversee incident response.
• Reliability: Drive automation and reliability improvements across network infrastructure services.
• Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to achieve shared objectives.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager for Software/Systems Engineers.
• Proven track record in hiring, onboarding, and professional development.
• Strong technical background in IP networking (BGP, Layer 3 routing, physical/virtual interconnects).
• Experience building/operating provisioning or automation systems for network infrastructure.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, and debugging distributed systems.
• Experience managing on-call rotations for production services.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to integrate AI-assisted tools into engineering workflows.

Bonus Points

• Hands-on experience with BGP configuration and peering operations.
• Familiarity with network inventory/IPAM systems (e.g., NetBox).
• Experience with cloud provider networking (AWS Direct Connect, GCP Partner Interconnect, Azure ExpressRoute).
• Knowledge of GRE, VXLAN, or other overlay/tunnel technologies.
• Systems-level programming experience (Go, Python, Rust, C, or C++).
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools in a professional setting.
